Premarital counseling is a type of therapy that helps couples prepare for marriage. Premarital counseling can help ensure that you and your partner have a strong, healthy relationship — giving you a better chance for a stable and satisfying marriage.
Although your schedule is jam packed with work and planning a wedding, premarital counseling is an absolute MUST for any engaged couple.
When my husband and I got engaged, I had a preconceived notion that premarital counseling was this horrible experience that was bound to break us up and we would have to cancel the wedding. Seriously? Who would recommend we go through that? We attended the 8 week premarital class, Merge, at Watermark in Dallas and it was awesome! We were those people that asked our leaders if we could attend the next class because it was so fun and insightful.
Why do I highly recommend premarital counseling? Because it sets you up for a successful marriage. At Merge we learned how to communicate effectively, what our expectations were for different things like holidays or the wedding night, gender roles or how the sexes are designed, how to handle in-laws and a ton of other good stuff. It’s so important for us to know these things when entering into a covenant relationship.
There are a ton of different premarital counseling options available and I recommend you jump on the train before you say “I do.” Marriage is hard, and I know everyone and their dog has told you that, but it really is so why not make it a little easier on yourself by being well prepared? You won’t regret it.
